Our university has implemented birdhouses where birds can take shelter during cold winter days with the “Sparrows Don’t Let Them Chill” event. Birdhouses, which also have an important place in Ottoman architecture, were revived with modern forms in the event held in our complex with the participation of our academic, administrative staff and students.
Attention was drawn to recycling
In the event held at Technical Sciences Vocational School (TBMYO) today at 13:00, the modular parts prepared by TBMYO Handicrafts Department instructors were combined and painted by our students and staff. Participants also designed birdhouse feeders from plastic waste materials they brought in order to draw attention to recycling. 40 birdhouses made for our little friends were placed at certain points in our complex. The birdhouse designed by Prof. Dr. Polat was also exhibited in the event, which our Rector Prof. Dr. Fethi Ahmet Polat could not attend due to official contacts.
“A legacy from the Ottomans”
The event, which was held with the participation of our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Murad Aydın Şanda, was met with great interest by our academic, administrative staff and students. Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Şanda expressed his pleasure in pioneering such studies as a university. Emphasizing the importance of animal love, Şanda continued his speech as follows:
“We see bird houses as a legacy from the elegant people of the Ottomans. We, who live in our warm homes, should also think of our animal friends on the streets who have no place to shelter in the snow, winter, rain and mud. We believe that bird houses, which are one of the most beautiful examples of compassion and love, represent very deep and strong emotions. As Muş Alparslan University, we are very happy to share these houses, the mortar of which we kneaded with love, with our little friends.”
They talked about the event
Speaking at the event held to create social awareness, TBMYO Director Eşref Alkış talked about the emergence of the idea of bird houses and said that the department instructors actively played a role in the construction process. Handicrafts Department Instructor Erhan Karadağ explained the technical aspects of the construction phase of the bird houses. Our students who participated in the event, which featured colorful images, expressed their pleasure in taking part in such works.
The event, which was also attended by members of the national and local press, was attended by Secretary General Harun Demir, Deputy Secretary General Ferit Uslu, as well as academic and administrative unit managers.
