Ceramics Exhibition and Pit Fire Workshop Event;
A pit fire workshop was held on April 16, 2026, from 09:00 to 18:00, and a ceramics exhibition was held on April 17, 2026, from 11:00 to 14:00, in the garden of the ceramics workshop hosted by Iğdır University Technical Sciences Vocational School. The pit fire workshop showcased works previously fired at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University and Muş Alparslan University by the participating instructors.
The event was attended by Didem Taşolar, wife of Iğdır Governor M. Fırat Taşolar, Iğdır University Rector Prof. Dr. Ekrem Gürel, his wife Prof. Dr. Songül Gürel, academic and administrative staff, and numerous students. Ekrem Gürel lit the first kiln with prayers. Pit firing is one of the primitive ceramic firing techniques. The firing lasted approximately 8-9 hours, reaching approximately 1000 degrees Celsius. Approximately 70 ceramic pieces were fired. The kiln was allowed to cool for one day and was emptied on Friday afternoon. A successful firing process was achieved, resulting in different and effective color effects. Pit firing is one of the primitive ceramic firing techniques.
On Friday, April 17th, at 11:00 AM, the ceramic exhibition opened in the corridor of the Technical Sciences Vocational School. The exhibition displayed works from the Pit Fire firing workshop previously held at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University and the Raku firing workshop held at the Handicrafts Department of Muş Alparslan University Technical Sciences Vocational School. Participation certificates were given at the exhibition opening. The works attracted great interest. Lecturer Emre Koç participated in the exhibition with 10 pieces.
