Muş Type E Closed Penal Institution Director Ferhat Tuncay, Expert Teacher Suzan Kıran, Correctional Officer Yurtsev Köse and Correctional Officer Özkan Orun visited the workshops of the Handicrafts Department affiliated to our university's Technical Sciences Vocational School (TBMYO) in order to obtain opinions on the rehabilitation and education of prisoners in penal institutions.
During the visit, TBMYO Director Dr. Lecturer Fatih Şevgin, Handicrafts Department Head Lecturer Mikail Sevindik, department academics Lecturer Abdulkadir Öznülüer, Lecturer Emre Koç and Handicrafts Workshop Manager Tuncay Şahin hosted the guest team in the workshops and provided information about the work. Ideas were exchanged on courses that could be organized for the reintegration and rehabilitation of prisoners in prison into society and projects that could be carried out within the scope of probation. Within this framework, how the expertise and opportunities in our university's Handicrafts Department could be integrated into the penal institution was discussed.
TBMYO Director Dr. Lecturer Fatih Şevgin said in a statement: "Education and rehabilitation in penal institutions are an important part of social recovery and the reintegration of prisoners into society. Skill-acquiring courses such as handicrafts can help prisoners regain their self-confidence and increase their employment opportunities. In addition, projects that can be carried out within the scope of probation can support the integration of prisoners into society. With the support of our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican, as a University, we are ready to cooperate and provide support in such projects aimed at penal institutions." Muş E Type Closed Penal Institution officials stated that they would be pleased with the possible cooperation with university officials and that they are open to developing joint projects to contribute to the education and rehabilitation processes of prisoners in penal institutions.
