A Program Titled "Turkey's Armenian Question" Was Organized at TBMYO
A conference program titled "Turkey's Armenian Question" was held at our University's Technical Sciences Vocational School (TBMYO), coordinated by the Handicrafts Department and the Association for Combating Baseless Armenian Claims (ASİMDER). The event, organized under the coordination of the Head of the TBMYO Handicrafts Department, Lecturer Mikail Sevindik, was presented by Retired Lecturer M. Törehan Serdar and took place with high participation thanks to the collaboration between academia and civil society. Attendees included: Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Talat Körpınar, TBMYO Director Dr. Lecturer Fatih Şevgin, Nationalist Movement Party Provincial Chairman Osman Yüce, Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Regional President of the Families of Martyrs and Veterans in the Fight Against Terrorism Gökmen Taylan, President of the Telli Turna Nature Association Kasım Avcı, President of the Turan Ambassadors of the Defense of Rights Association Osman Avcı, and Fira Stationery Öz Taylan A.Ş. Chairman of the Board Kenan Taylan attended the event. Also present were department heads, academic staff, and numerous students from the Turkish Vocational School of Technology. ASİMDER President Turhan Sur, in his opening speech, stated that the alleged Armenian genocide claims do not reflect the truth and emphasized the need for the public to understand this issue correctly. He stressed that some real injustices have been forgotten in the dusty pages of history, while the gangs, groups, and imperial powers that played a role in this process are now trying to portray themselves as victims. Highlighting the importance of historical documents, Sur stated that correctly interpreting past events is crucial for understanding the present. In this context, he referred to the late Necmettin Erbakan's assessments of the social changes in eastern and southeastern Anatolia after the 1915 events, stating that such observations offer important clues for understanding current developments. At the end of his speech, Sur recalled the words of Ziya Gökalp, a significant figure in the world of ideas, emphasizing the brotherhood and solidarity between Turks and Kurds, and highlighted the importance of preserving social unity and togetherness. Stating that he did not want to prolong his opening speech, Sur thanked the participants and invited the main speaker of the program to the podium. Speaking at the conference, M. Törehan Serdar shared his assessments on the subject with the participants, stating: “I especially want to emphasize that the genocide allegations, which have been voiced for years, have been clearly shown to be a great lie with historical documents. At this point, it is of great importance that some colonial states do not prepare the ground for new provocations on this issue, as they did in the past. Otherwise, such initiatives harm the Armenian community the most and drag them back into a period of misery.
We, on the other hand, must strengthen our unity and solidarity with the strength we derive from our history. If we act as one heart, without division, as in the War of Independence, Turkey will once again reach its former strong and glorious days. Thanks to this spirit of unity, our country will further strengthen its status as a great state.” The main objective of the program was stated as providing a scientific and document-based assessment of the alleged Armenian genocide claims, in light of historical evidence. The program concluded with participants exchanging views on the subject, the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to the speaker, and a group photo session.
