TBMYO's "Review and Evaluation of the Restoration Works of Diyarbakır Walls" Project
The "Review and Evaluation of the Restoration Works of Diyarbakır Walls" project, which is carried out within the scope of artistic activities by the Art Platform Community operating within the Department of Handicrafts of our University's Technical Sciences Vocational School (TBMYO), was carried out with a trip organized by the community members to Diyarbakır. The project trip was organized on June 12-13 with the participation of the members of our University's Art Platform Community as well as the academic staff and students of the Department of Handicrafts.

Within the scope of the project, the methods of restoration work carried out on Diyarbakır Walls were examined, the suitability of the materials and techniques used in the restoration was investigated, the effect of the restoration on the original texture of the walls was analyzed, the maintenance and protection measures to be taken in the future were examined on site, the contribution of the restoration to regional tourism and the local people was investigated, suggestions were developed to increase cultural heritage awareness, the problems encountered during the restoration process were identified, and sustainable maintenance and repair strategies were examined on site for the long-term protection of Diyarbakır Walls. Community members gathered information about the restoration process by examining the materials and techniques used in the restoration of the walls in the field to determine their suitability for long-term preservation.

Head of the Department of Handicrafts, Lecturer Mikail Sevindik made a statement about the project, saying, “As the Department of Handicrafts, we act with the responsibility of protecting cultural heritage and transferring it to future generations. In this context, I find the inspection trip carried out by the Art Platform Community to the Diyarbakır Walls extremely valuable. Our students’ on-site observations and evaluation of restoration processes are of great importance in terms of both their professional development and strengthening their cultural heritage awareness. We will continue similar activities of other student communities established within our department in the upcoming academic year. I believe that such projects play a supporting and deepening role in our educational activities; I would like to thank our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican, TBMYO Director Dr. Lecturer Fatih Şevgin, the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports that provides support with ÜNİDES, Lecturer Dr. Abdulkadir Öznülüer who is the academic advisor of the community, and our department student, Community President Suzan Yaldız and the community students.”
