Colors Behind the Walls: Marbling Art Show Organized for Inmates

A special event was organized by the Technical Sciences Vocational School (TBMYO), Department of Handicrafts, in collaboration with Muş E Type Closed Penal Institution.

The event was attended by second-year students of the Architectural Decorative Arts Program, led by TBMYO Handicrafts Department Head Instructor Mikail Sevindik.

The event, which was held with the hospitality of Muş E Type Closed Penal Institution Director Ferhat Tuncay and provided an opportunity for inmates to meet with art, was accompanied by Institution Second Directors Ramiz Müjdeci and Hasan Olgaç, Institution Specialist Teacher Suzan Kıran, Institution Psychologist Ebubekir Kurtaran, Institution Correctional Protection Chief Officer Kağan Kocaman, Institution Correctional Protection Officer Yunus Demir.

As part of the event, marbling art practices were performed and basic information about marbling art, as well as marbling art materials, preparation of marbling paints and the stages of making marbling types were explained. In bilateral meetings with the Institution Director Tuncay, ideas were exchanged on internship and employment opportunities for students in the department, and discussions were held to hold the event periodically every month, and it was decided to further strengthen the cooperation process.

TBMYO Director Dr. Lecturer Fatih Şevgin, who thanked the academic staff and students of the Handicrafts Department, said in his statement on the subject, “As TBMYO, we believe in the unifying power of art and strive to provide access to every segment of our society. In this context, we see the marbling art event, which we organized in cooperation with Muş Type E Closed Penal Institution in line with our previous meetings, as an important step towards this goal. I believe that we have achieved our goal of contributing to the personal development and rehabilitation processes of our prisoners by allowing them to meet with art with this event.

Our cooperation process will not be limited to just one event; these events, which will be organized periodically, will pave the way for more comprehensive projects. We will continue to deliver the healing power of art to every segment of our society with the joint works we will carry out in the future. This meaningful event once again emphasized the fact that art can contribute to social healing by bringing people together. On this occasion, I would like to thank our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alican, our instructors and students who contributed to the organization of the event, and I invite all art lovers to the personal exhibition to be organized by our department instructor Lecturer Abdulkadir Öznülüer on May 13, 2024 within our Department of Handicrafts, and to the student exhibition themed Frequency to be held on May 20, 2024.”
